AI course retrieval

Role aware

This page proves course-content indexing and retrieval filtered by tenant, course, lesson, and role before Study with Otto tutor answers are enabled.

Audience
Administrator
Current limits
It uses local invented course content only. It does not call AI providers or embeddings, write production content chunks, create vectors, write AI runs, update student progress, reveal graded answers to students, or activate Study with Otto.

Support request boundary

Use Sev2 if retrieval could cross tenants, bypass course enrollment, expose instructor-only or draft content to students, index restricted data, or answer without citations; Sev3 if chunk metadata, role labels, or not-covered behavior is unclear; and Sev4 for proof-copy feedback. This panel does not submit a support case.

Sev1: Critical outage or data-risk emergency

Target: 1-hour response, 24/7 paging during pilot

Sev2: Major workflow blocked

Target: 4 business hours

Sev3: Standard product question or non-urgent issue

Target: 1 business day

Sev4: How-to, cosmetic, or future enhancement

Target: 2 business days

These preview controls are placeholders. Real AI answers, search, walkthroughs, and support submission come in later tickets.

Retrieval is filtered by tenant, course, and role

Retrieval is filtered by tenant, course, and role before ranking. Student requests see only published allowed chunks; instructor-only chunks require an instructor context.

Ticket 114

Retrieval receives tenant, user, role, and permitted course ids from authenticated server context.

Students can retrieve only published chunks explicitly allowed for the student role.

Instructor-only and draft chunks stay hidden from student retrieval, even when the text matches the query.

Cross-tenant chunks are excluded before scoring and never become citations.

Restricted source records are rejected during indexing and are not available for tutor retrieval.

A no-match query returns not_covered so the future tutor can avoid inventing answers.

Course content index

Indexed chunks keep metadata needed for tutor citations without storing vectors in this proof. Restricted records are skipped and draft or instructor-only chunks produce review warnings.

restricted source skipped

restricted-student-note: restricted content cannot be indexed for tutor retrieval.

med120-answer-key: instructor_only content is indexed for authorized non-student roles only.

med120-draft-remediation: draft content is indexed for authorized non-student roles only.
